I use WC (what else?) to process my tapes and LP's, add track titles and other tag information and then save in Flac format. The next stage of burning to CD's is what is causing me problems.

I have had great difficulty finding burning software in either windows or Ubuntu Linux which will transfer the tag info on to a CD along with the audio data. The nearest I have got is Brasero which shows all my tag info when I add my saved flac files to it. However it only seems to write a name for the disc which I have to enter manually otherwise it defaults to "audio disc (date)"

If I get this manually entered album name right and it has also been issued in CD format, freedb will often download all the tag info when I play the CD on a PC. Otherwise I will simply get the "Unknown artist" and track no. In any case much of my tape material is from non commercial sources and the track titles are uniquely created by me.

What I really want is to have the info burnt to the CD so that my in-car system or other freestanding music player can show it on its screen.

If anyone else has solved this issue, either in Windows or Ubuntu Linux, I would love to hear how they did it.

I know CD's are old technology nowadays, but I LIKE my shelf of catalogued CD's and can't get to grips with them all being on one small MP3 player with little or no sleeve note etc. to say nothing to being vulnerable to total deletion by the careless press of the wrong button

Hi deorr2, Image Burn is a program that claims to support tag-based cd text. According to the online guide for burning audio disks,"Note: ImgBurn currently supports reading 'Tag' data from APE, Flac, MP3, OGG, WMA and WV files." It runs in windows and linux. The process for burning a cd is a bit cumbersome, as an image needs to be created 1st. Also you have to download the Ogg/Flac codec pack in order for it to work. Both items are relatively minor, and I find IB is an excellent overall burner program, and it has replaced Nero on my machine. Best of all, it's free.

I haven't burned many discs lately, preferring WC's 24/96 record capability to playback flac files straight from the pc using a high fidelity player called cPlay. The files are loaded into the program via cue sheets, and the bulk of the list is loaded into ram - 700 megs is not uncommon. It, along with it's companion user shell program called mPlay, form the core of a pc based music player that can exceed the fidelity of a conventional cd player by minimizing jitter to levels impossible with a cd transport. The fidelity is, quite simply, stunning.

With the advent of relatively cheap mass storage devices, computer based audio has finally hit the mainstream....now if only I can get one of these in the car!

I thought you Canadians drove BIG cars which would easily take a computer audio system along side the fridge/freezer

Yeay! Works like a dream. Had a bit of difficulty until I saw the footnote in the guide about the need for Direct Show codecs.

When I was looking at other programmes I didn't appreciate the need to create a cue sheet. I don't think Brasero has the facility so I would have to call up some other piece of software. Image Burn is a one stop shop.
