I have recently bought a graphic equaliser. They are quite cheap on Ebay.
I feed the signals from cassette, reel to reel or turntable through it and have been very pleased with the tonal improvements I have obtained.
Mind you I have been working with some very old poor quality material. |

What type of "curve" are you creating with the equalizer. Bass cut (what frequencies) treble etc etc. Have you tried duplicating your curves with the graphic equalizer in Wave Corrector? Interesting topic.

I'm not that sophisticated I just play the track and make adjustments until it sounds as good as I can get it. Then I record it to hard disc.
All very subjective.
Generally I would end up reducing the 31 to 125Hz bands and slightly boosting the middle ranges 250Hz to 4Khz. Every track and tape is different.
I feel the effect is better than using a software equaliser, although that still has its place for final tweaking if necessary. |
