Wave Corrector Users

My problems are, mostly, not Wave Corrector (Standard Version 1.3r1) problems, but I hope someone here can give some help. My goal is to: 1) use Wave Corrector to lift a track from an LP and save it as an Ogg Vorbis (.ogg) file, 2) add the track to the Windows Media Player 11 library (windows XP), and 3) use Windows Media Player to sync the file to my MP3 player, which supports .ogg files.

I added Ogg support to WMP11 with a download I got from http://www.vorbis.com/setup_windows/. I used Wave Corrector to record a track from an LP and save it as <song_title>.ogg. Before saving, I used the properties editor to add the album name, and artist to the track metadata. I saved the file in the following directory structure: “My Music/MY_LPs/<artist>/<album>/<song_title>.ogg”. As a test I used Window Explorer to step down to the <album> directory and double-clicked <song_title>.ogg. As expected, Windows recognized the file type and opened WMP to play the track.

I used WMP Library->add_to_Library to add the directory “My Music/MY_LPs” to the WMP library, but when WMP rebuilt its library, it did not add <song_title>.ogg to the library. This is one of the problems I need help with.

I opened Windows Explorer and stepped down to the <album> directory. I then used drag-and-drop to drag <song_title>.ogg from Windows Explorer and drop it on WMP’s library. The song went into the library, and I was able to play the song. However, the song went in with “Unknown Album” and “Unknown Artist”, though the song title was correct. This is another one of the problems I need help with.

I used WMP’s sync function to sync its library to my MP3 player. However, WMP reported an error on <song_title>.ogg and would not sync the file. The error message is “Windows Media Player cannot sync this file. The Player might not support the file type”. Is seems that even though WMP will play .ogg files it doesn’t completely support them. This is the most important problem I need help with.

To summarize, I would like help with the following problems: 1) how can I get WMP to sync .ogg files to my MP3 player? (This problem is a show stopper.), 2) how can I get WMP to recognize the metadata I added in Wave Corrector? and 3) how can I get WMP to automatically add files to its library when I save them under the directory “My Music/MY_LPs”?

I'm not sure I can offer much help as I've not had much experience with what you're trying to do. However, it may be possible to sync your files using another player instead of WMP, for example, Winamp and Foobar are both worth a try. I'm not familiar with syncing to a portable player; so I can't say definitely that this can be done.

The other possibility is to save in mp3 instead of ogg. Wave Corrector can do this using the LAME external encoder. I can help with this if it is something you want to try.

Good luck and perhaps someone else can offer alternative advice.

I always drag n drop files to the player in explorer, or right-click > 'send to'.

I have decided to try the LAME mp3 encoder. My plan is to:
- create the directory "C:\Program Files\WaveCor\encoders"
- go to http://www.rarewares.org/mp3-lame-bundle.php and download a binary version of LAME 3.98.4 suitable, I assume, for use in Windows XP
- put the binary in the “…/encoders” directory
- open the “Wave Corrector->File->Exteral Encoders” dialog and set "C:\Program Files\WaveCor\encoders" into the “Auto-Detect Encoders” path
- restart Wave Corrector


Can you tell me if this is the correct procedure?

Hello Don

Yes, that should work OK. Let us know if you have any problems.

Alternatively, you could create the 'encoders' folder directly on your c: drive (ie "c:/encoders/". This is the default location for encoders and therefore you wouldn't have to set the path using the 'File/External Encoders' command.

How do I convert Windows Media Player so it plays on my television? I Have a movie on my Computer which plays on Windows media player and I hooked up proper connections so would play on my television but only shows white screen, How do i convert windows player to show on my television.

If your video card has composite video you shouldn't have any problems. If the connection is HDMI then I'm guessing you have handshake issues.

You might have better luck finding an answer if you posted your question to some of the PC or HT forums.
