Cable distribution systems in the UK are currently governed by British Standard BS6513. However this standard is in the process of being superseded by the CENELEC European Norm EN 50083.
The scope of EN 50083 is broader than BS 6313. BS 6513 specifies overall system performance whereas EN 50083 also covers the performance of individual components. It is assumed that, when BS 6513 is fully withdrawn, systems will need to comply with those parts EN 50083 which apply to systems. It is not clear whether meeting component requirements will be mandatory.
